About the Band

Beginning band at Carlton Avenue School is held on Mondays at 2:50-3:40pm and is open to all Carlton 4th and 5th graders. During the 2019-2020 school year, Beginning band will be taught by Judy Nelson.

Intermediate band is held on Tuesdays at 2:50-3:40 and is open to Carlton 5th graders who have completed one year of Beginning band or by teacher approval. During the 2019-2020 school year, Intermediate band will be taught by Tracey Hurley.

Performance is required in two concerts in the 2019-2020 school year. On concert days, students will arrive at the regularly scheduled class time to warm up. All concerts for both Beginning and Intermediate Band will begin at 3:30pm on the last rehearsal day of the semester.

Registration fee for 2019-2020 is $325, payable through the "Register" link above. This fee does not include instrument rental. West Valley Music will deliver rental instruments and supplies to Carlton Avenue School on the first day of class, and will provide repair service and supply orders delivered to school throughout the year.

About Judy Nelson

Judy has been a professional Classical flutist for 30 years. She taught band, strings, orchestra, chorus, chamber ensembles, and song flute in the Millbrae School district for 11 years. This will be Judy's third year directing the Beginning band at Carlton Avenue School.

Judy is great with kids, teaching most band instruments including flute, clarinet, alto and tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, baritone horn, tuba, oboe, bassoon, violin, cello, recorder, and piano. She gives private lessons as well as small groups. She is your go-to-gal for band students!

About Tracey Hurley

Tracey Hurley received her Bachelors of Music from Ohio University with an emphasis in Instrumental Music Education. Tracey’s wide range of experience includes wind ensemble, marching band, jazz band, and trumpet ensemble. Tracey enjoys music education and has more than five years of experience teaching children of all ages. Her most recent accomplishments include teaching high school trumpet lessons and conducting the Frisco Community Band Brass Choir. This will be Tracey's second year directing the Intermediate band.
